The motor grader is down...
Apparently, there is fuel leaking into the oil. There are seals in the fuel injection that need replacing. Unfortunately we will be unable to grade the roads until it is repaired.

With the recent rain we have had it is a good time to grade but it is not worth the chance of damaging the engine on the grader.

A message to those few who would wish to 'suppress' the freedom of the press.

Recently the FAVRR sign placed at the junction of Pinon Rd. and Pinon Dr. has been removed. The sign has been there since 2005 and read: "Tired of Bad Roads www.FAVRR.com Check it Out"

Initially, the sign was used for FAVRR brochures; most recently the Pinyon O'pinion newspaper has used the sign to place the newspaper there for anyone wishing to read it.

In the past, the Pinyon O'pinion has experienced vandalism and theft to it's previous locations of distribution; and now it seems, has experienced another incident - theft of the FAVRR sign.

Not only are these acts a violation of law (theft and vandalism) but are clearly a violation of what we as Americans have stood for since the birth of our nation. A violation of the Constitution of the United States of America and the Constitutional Bill of Rights.

Remember what the first amendment says? Here it is...

FIRST AMENDMENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
So you don't think the Pinyon O'pinion is not a newspaper? Think again, it is.
Consider this:
Although a cherished right of the people, freedom of the press is different from other liberties of the people in that it is both individual and institutional. It applies not just to a single person's right to publish ideas, but also to the right of print and broadcast media to express political views and to cover and publish news. A free press is, therefore, one of the foundations of a democratic society, and as Walter Lippmann, the 20th-century American columnist, wrote, "A free press is not a privilege, but an organic necessity in a great society." Indeed, as society has grown increasingly complex, people rely more and more on newspapers, radio, and television to keep abreast with world news, opinion, and political ideas. One sign of the importance of a free press is that when antidemocratic forces take over a country, their first act is often to muzzle the press.

Here's what Thomas Jefferson said about the issue:
Thomas Jefferson, on the necessity of a free press (1787)
The basis of our government being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter.
The 'Freedom of the Press' has been attacked for centuries by many different people and governments; this freedom has always prevailed and more than likely, always will.
To those of you who think you can 'muzzle' our little local newspaper, you are but a small part of our community that - as Walter Lippmen summarizes, is an antidemocratic force that is 'attempting' to take over our community. I don't believe you will prevail; because as Lippmen stated, "A free press is not a privelege, but an organic necssity in a great society." The great society of the communities of Pinyon; within the great society of America.
But don't be upset because without those who wish to supress, there would not be those who cherish the freedoms that so many have died for.
